No CommentsSaturday I got up early and went to volunteer with the ladies of L.A.C.E Ladies about Creating Excellence at their Fashion Collision at the Bedford Library on Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn..
The ladies from L.A.C.E and I go way back and I am sooo proud of all the strides they are making with this endeavor. We’re partnered on two events thus far and am sure there will be many more partnerships in the future! In February at the Kick Off of the Pretty Girls Rock Dresses Campaign, we collected over 30 dresses that were donated to the L.A.C.E 1st Annual Event to Collect at the House of Art in Brooklyn on April 16th.
303 dresses were collected at that event.. which were given away this past weekend to high school girls in need of prom and graduation dresses. The event was sponsored by Sugarcane Restaurant in Brooklyn.
Upon arrival around 9:45a I was elated to see a line of girls and their mothers waiting to shift through the racks to find their perfect dress!
Once inside the hustle and bustle of the L.A.C.E. team getting everything ready was electrifying.. dresses were being organized by size and color.. hangers were flying.. racks were heavy.. pins were needed… it was so exciting! The total dress count rose from 303 to approximately 400!
I took the liberty of styling the mannequins with the two dresses that were to be raffled…. A custom Gwen Beloti dress and a Mori Lee dress that was donated. Yes those are my pearls on the Gwen Beloti dress..
It was such a great day.. so many happy ladies left with not just a Prom Dress but a graduation dress too!!! One young lady who arrived early had a very difficult time finding a dress and decided to stay for the raffle drawing.. screamed with delight when she learned she won! She cried, we cried.. The L.A.C.E team was so happy to have been able to give her a dream dress at NO CHARGE!
And even when I was leaving at 12:45pm as the 2nd shift was to take over for the tail end and clean up there was STILL a line of ladies waiting outside to get their chance of finding their DREAM DRESS TOO!!
What a great time and a wonderful experience. As usual I’m honored to have been able to be apart!
